In-Flight Entertainment Reaches New Heights with Meta Quest Travel Mode

Updated: May 27 2024 04:19

Are you tired of the same old in-flight entertainment options? Get ready to take your travel experience to a whole new level with the introduction of Travel Mode for Meta Quest 2 and 3 headsets. This new feature transforms your Quest into the ultimate in-flight entertainment device, allowing you to immerse yourself in a world of movies, games, and productivity, all from the comfort of your airplane seat.

Immerse Yourself in a World of Entertainment

With Travel Mode, you can enjoy movies on a massive virtual screen, making it feel like you're in your own private cinema. Kick back with your favorite games or meditation apps, allowing you to relax and unwind during your flight. You can even get some work done in complete privacy, thanks to the virtual environment created by your Quest headset.

Meta Quest headsets' balanced and ergonomic design allows you to enjoy your content without the need for a neck pillow. Plus, the algorithms have been specially tuned to account for the motion of an airplane, providing a consistent and stable experience, even when you're looking out the virtual window.

Seamless Connectivity and Access to Your Content Library

Travel Mode makes it easy to stay connected and entertained throughout your journey. If your flight offers complimentary Wi-Fi, your Quest headset may detect the airline's network and prompt you to join. It will then automatically launch the browser, allowing you to access a selection of movies and TV shows. Additionally, you'll have access to your library of Quest content, ensuring you have plenty of options to keep you engaged during your flight.

To start using Travel Mode, simply opt-in under the Experimental features section of your Settings menu. You can then toggle Travel Mode on and off from the Quick Settings. In some cases, your headset may even automatically detect when you're on an airplane and recommend turning on Travel Mode for a seamless experience. Meta Quest plans to expand Travel Mode to support other modes of transportation, such as trains, in the future.

Lufthansa Partnership: A New Era of In-Flight Entertainment

Meta Quest has partnered with Lufthansa to launch a pilot program that will revolutionize in-flight entertainment. Selected flights for customers of the new Lufthansa Allegris Business Class Suite will be outfitted with Quest 3 headsets, offering access to a variety of custom, dedicated MR content.

This includes entertainment, travel, wellness, games, and more, all designed to run seamlessly in Travel Mode. MSM.digital, a Meta Business Partner, will create content and provide device setup, distribution, management, and technical support, working closely with Meta and Lufthansa. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in the industry, being the first time an airline will offer access to Quest 3 headsets in a commercial in-flight setting. Beginning this summer, Business Class Suite Passengers on the selected flights will be able to:

  • Enjoy an immersive cinema experience with select movies and TV shows
  • Listen to prominent travel podcasters and see their stories come to life through spatial videos and select 360-degree video content
  • Discover travel destinations from a bird’s-eye view with virtual sightseeing previews before you arrive
  • Play interactive games like Connect Four and Chess
  • Relax with active meditation exercises or enjoy a passive, lean-back experience

Quest 3 is not just a game-changer for in-flight entertainment; it's also the perfect companion for all your travels. Whether you're facing an extended layover or a long-distance flight, Quest 3 has you covered. With the introduction of Travel Mode on Meta Quest 2 and 3, in-flight entertainment will never be the same. This feature, combined with the partnership with Lufthansa, showcases Meta Quest's commitment to revolutionizing the way we experience travel.
